I hope you had a great day 😄
This evening, I want to focus on vulnerability.
The definition of vulnerable is susceptible to physical or emotional attack or harm. Vulnerability is the quality of being vulnerable.
Practicing vulnerability entails putting your softest emotions out there to be hurt.
Our emotions are soft and sensitive. Who we really are inside is often completely different from the image we like to keep on the outside. We are taught to do this to protect our real selves from society’s critical eyes. We all wear armor.
What do we hide under this armor?
The inner child - we don’t want to be seen as childish
The silly side - we don’t want to get laughed at
The creative brain - we don’t want to feel dumb
Though we aim to protect these soft spots with armor, that same armor removes it from your soul. The hidden tender spot is safe from the real world, but hidden traits can’t contribute to who we are.
When a soft spot is hidden it’s no longer a part of you.
For it to be part of you, it has to be out there. It has to be shown to the world and practiced out loud. Only then can you reclaim these lost pieces of your true self.
And so, this evening, I want to encourage you to find the soft spots in your life and remove some of their armor.
This is one time where it’s actually better to go slow. Exposing your tender side too quickly will result in pain and you’ll just recoil back into your armor, convinced that there’s nothing of value to be had outside.
When you are young, your hands are tender. As you grow, your hands get tougher by exposure. You don’t have to think about growing callouses, your body just adapts. This isn’t a trait unique to hands.
The same will happen with your soft spots. Remove the armor a little at a time, and watch your true self bloom like a flower.
